What is embossing?

Embossing is a luxurious finishing technique in which text or a design is pressed into the cover material using a professional embossing machine. This creates a tactile relief that gives the cover an elegant look and feel. When combined with a foil color such as gold, silver, white, or black, the text stands out even more. The result is a cover that is just as impressive as the contents of the book.

This option is available for two types of photo books: the Premium Hardcover Photo Book and the Professional Photo Book.

Choosing an embossing cover when creating a photo boo

When you start creating your photo book online, first select a book type that supports embossing. Next, choose the desired size and orientation. During the ordering process, you’ll be given the option to add embossing to the cover.

At checkout, you select the cover material, indicate how many lines of text you want on the cover, and choose the letter size. Then pick the foil color that best matches your design gold, silver, black, or white. This way, you create a luxurious and personal cover that makes your photo book truly special.

Embossing options and possibilities

With our embossing, we offer three options, depending on the number of lines and the size of the characters. In the table below, you can see the available embossing choices, including the options for foil color and letter size.

It's important to know that embossing is only possible on plain covers within the following collections: Nature, Noé, Pure, Tropical, Sparkle, Classic, and Western.

The above letters, characters and numbers are set within a gear-wheel system, which means that only these fixed characters are available for embossing and it is not possible to add special symbols or images.

Important exceptions for embossing

When choosing an embossing cover, it's worth keeping a few exceptions in mind. Not all cover materials are suitable for embossing with foil. Some surfaces prevent the foil from adhering properly, which means the end result doesn't meet our quality standard. For this reason, embossing is only possible on the previously mentioned Premium Hardcover and Professional photo books.

In addition, it is not possible to choose your own font for the embossing. We work with a classic copper letter wheel containing fixed, carefully selected standard letters. The examples shown earlier in the blog show you exactly what these letters look like.
